Structural Steel Modification & Beam Strengthening Works

Assesmont carried out a series of specialist structural steel modifications within an active construction environment, delivering precision alterations to existing castellated and cellular beams. The works involved the controlled preparation, welding and sealing of web openings to accommodate new service routes and structural requirements.

Operating from fully scaffolded access platforms, our team undertook:

• Welding and infilling of circular web openings to strengthen existing beams and prepare them for revised load paths.
• Installation of steel plates and patch welds to close penetrations and create new service interfaces.
• Localised trimming and adaptation of beams beneath corrugated metal decking, ensuring compatibility with new mechanical and electrical installations.
• Safe working within confined overhead areas, using flame‑retardant containment sheeting and controlled access zones to maintain a clean and compliant workspace.
• Precision alignment and marking to ensure all welded components met engineering specifications and site tolerances.
