Folding Wall Structural Steelwork
Project: Structural Steelwork for Operable Partitions, Broadgate
We completed the full supply, fabrication (including detailed drawings), delivery, and installation of specialist structural steelwork to support folding/movable partitions at 1 Finsbury Avenue in London’s Broadgate.
The package featured:
- Column assemblies (C1A–C12B): Primarily 152×152 S355 JO Universal Columns (lengths approx. 1970 mm or 1050 mm), with welded baseplates to the “A” sections, pre-drilled connection holes, and red oxide primer finish. These provide paired support for the sliding or folding wall systems.
- Beam assemblies (B1–B12): Three-part spliced sections using the same 152×152 UC grade, incorporating notches, welded underside flats, end plates, and loose splice plates. Select beams included bespoke fins or extended lengths.
Primary steel fabricated in robust S355 JO grade, with plates in S275 JR. All elements received red oxide primer protection (some loose splices supplied self-colour). The installed framework now enables concertina-style operable partitions, allowing flexible reconfiguration of office spaces. This supports rapid division or opening of large areas for meetings, events, or collaborative working – a key feature in modern, adaptable commercial environments.
