We’ve recently completed work on a new 12-apartment residential block in Walthamstow; an important affordable housing redevelopment that transforms previously underutilised land from the former Waltham Forest College campus into much-needed modern homes for the local community. As experienced steel fabrication and installation specialists, we proudly delivered a comprehensive, high-quality solution tailored to the project’s requirements.
Our scope included:
- Structural steel frame A robust hot-rolled primary superstructure using red-oxide primed universal beams and columns, engineered for strength, durability, and long-term performance in a residential setting.
- Secondary steel elements Galvanised cold-formed purlins and channels strategically positioned to provide reliable floor and roof support between the main beams.
- Balconies A thoughtful combination of cantilevered projecting balconies and recessed designs, finished with aluminium decking and integrated privacy screens where required to enhance resident comfort, safety, and aesthetics.
- Internal stair handrails Continuous polished and satin stainless steel round profiles featuring smooth, ergonomic curves for a premium, user-friendly finish that prioritises both style and functionality.
- Internal balustrades Frameless 12mm toughened/laminated glass panels creating an open, light-filled stairwell environment, securely fixed using stainless steel spigots and base channels for a clean, contemporary look.
- Wall-mounted handrail Matching stainless steel round profile installed on one side of the stair for dual support, ensuring full compliance with UK safety standards and accessibility requirements.
This project exemplifies our expertise in delivering compliant, precision-engineered structural and architectural steelwork for residential development. This contributes to the creation of high-quality, sustainable affordable housing right here in Walthamstow. All work was carried out to UKCA BS EN 1090 Class 3 standards, with full attention to detail, safety and programme efficiency.
