Major Repairs to External Escape Stairs & Walkway Steelwork
We are delighted to have been commissioned to carry out some major repairs to the external escape stairs and walkway at The St. Christopher School in Leigh on Sea, Essex.
We provide BS 8210:2020 Building Escape Routes inspections, maintenance, reporting. Where required we supply full fabrication and installation of associated steelwork, including gantries, walkways, CAT ladders, access hatches and fie escape staircases.
Following on from inspections we carried out at The St Christopher School, we recommended the following rectifications, which have been accepted. Work started immediately.
🔸 Remove existing and install new gates/doors + frame at staircase bottom, including new push bar system and hinges.
🔸 Ream out structural steel connection fixing holes and install new fixings where missing or too short.
🔸 Relevel landing floor plate to eliminate trip hazard.
🔸 Refit handrail to staircase and walkways, addressing missing fixings and spigot misalignment.
🔸 Relevel mesh panels and replace missing fixings/clips.
🔸 Jet wash stairs and walkway steelwork to remove mildew/bird droppings, then apply Galvafroid to treat surface rust.
🔸 Install new riser plates to all stair treads to close gaps and remove trip hazards.
BS 8210:2020 Facilities Management recommends a structural survey of the external fire escapes, CAT ladders, platforms and gantries – in fact any route that can be deemed as an escape route – of a building at least every 5 years as well as annual visual inspections.
