Evacuation Drill from Tower Cranes & Cages
Evacuation drill for tower crane operators and personnel in access cages (designed & built by Assesmont)
In Norway, a comprehensive evacuation drill for tower crane operators was carried out by Implenia Norway in partnership with DownRight at their Fornebu Metro Line project in Oslo.
As part of the safety exercise, they carried out a simulated safety exercise based on the scenario that a fire blocked the regular evacuation route via the ladder. In addition to having rescue equipment in the tower cranes, the company has also chosen to equip personnel baskets and lifts with rescue bags. This means that a total of six rescue bags are available on-site, providing multiple evacuation options and increased flexibility in emergency situations.
The basket used in the exercise was the WOLFF Onsite ‘Big Red’ Offset Access Cage. The cage features an extension with sides rising above waist height, complete with a handrail for added safety.
Assesmont designed the access cage from scratch, and calculated all counterweight, balancing and lifting requirements. The 4-people carrier unit consists of an extension with sides rising above waist height with a handrail. The harness points are located between the cage and the extension.
It’s the only product of its type in Europe and we have now constructed two of them for Wolff Onsite.
